In May 2011, we had an incredible opportunity to take a river cruise on the UNIWORLD BEATRICE up the Danube from Budapest, Hungary through Austria and end in Passau, Germany. By far it is the best vacation we have been on.

Budapest was amazing, and we would love to go back there again to enjoy all the things we did not have time to check out, such as the bath houses. There are so many great things and much history to see. Then as we coasted up the river to Austria, we saw so many awesome sights along the way. Castles, quaint towns/villages, people sitting along the river waving and shouting to us as we pass by, people biking on the roads that parallel along the river. And we had the opportunity to bike ride (the ships has bike that you can reserve) in Vienna, Austria. It was INCREDIBLE! If you are up for a adventure and weather permitting, you can bike ride from Durnstein to Melk and meet back up with the ship when it arrives the same day. Each port we stopped in was just as amazing as the next one. Each city had it's own character and awesome sights to see that we took so many pictures to try and capture it all. Though, we could only capture bits and pieces, which do no justice unless you see it for yourself. Pictures More Pictures

You definitely need good and comfortable walking shoes with a river cruise. There is a lot to see and a lot of walking to see it. It was so nice to have tours included so you have the chance to get out and learn a lot of history for each city we stopped at for a visit. And it was also nice to return to ship to relax just in time for tea time in the lounge. The food was very good and focused on American culture with a subtle combination of Europe style, this is due to marketed for English speaking guests. Though, we had a large group of Japanese passengers (with a Japanese tour guide that spoke some English) that did not speak any English and they had a wonderful vacation. I think that says a lot for UNIWORLD.

For our next river cruise, we plan to do the Castle's on the Rhine. We cannot imagine the sights and culture we will see on this itinerary but we are definitely looking forward to finding out!
